When Are You Prepared Enough... ...Or Too Prepared?

When Are You Prepared Enough... ...Or Too Prepared?

This would seem like an easy enough question, but I personally struggle with this exact conflict.

I suffer from the following – I’m a perfectionist, I’m a dreamer, I’m controlling, I’m a procrastinator, and also a bit unwilling to change in certain scenarios. All of these qualities and defects of character define me, but also weigh heavily on how I run… …well everything in my life.

With the conventions, toy/collectible shows, and events Side Quest Games & Collectibles takes part in, I feel compelled to bring the best that I can to each event. Selfish pride is part of it as a business owner, of course. I won’t lie about that. My inner Ferengi certainly wants to acquire as much latinum as possible.

There is also this inner happiness I get when watching show attendees browse the booth with purpose. They aren’t confused. My booth is not a “struggle” (my word/phrase) for them to look through to find that new piece for their collection. The quester finds that POP!, Loungefly bag, Pokemon pack, or other item at the booth and brings it over to make it theirs. This quester and I have a great connection over it and what it means to them.

At this point, I know I’ve prepared.

But did I prepare enough? I have so much stuff! So much cool stuff! What if something they were looking for I have in my inventory, but it couldn’t fit because some other cool stuff made it onto (still need a name for the van so Pack Sis’ name of Vanny is still being used) Vanny? In my humble opinion we’re awesome because we can place an order for an item at the event and ship it to any quester who wants it. But that’s not nearly as cool as getting it, holding it in your hand, sharing your find on Twitt… …oh wait. We can’t use that name? Ok, fine social media outlets (like ours). And simply taking it home that day.

Maybe simply preparing is preparing enough. Even the shows I thought would be the worst both logistically and sales wise turned out pretty good. I felt great after each one. Disposition is important. Believing in what you offer even more so.
At the end of the day, just prepare to have a good time and it'll be alright.
