“Ripley, any advice on improving the website?”

Lt. Ellen Ripley from Aliens with the Side Quest Games Logo

Moving into 2024, one of my main goals is to bring all channels into line with another to provide Questers as seamless, frictionless, pleasant, and easy-to-understand way to land that cool collectible.

My background is in consultative sales, retail management with buying experience, and a study of how to merchandise items. When I set up my convention booth, I identify where the customer would expect to find the item(s) in question. Where are kids looking? How high/accessible should I make the item(s)? What items should I even sell? All of these questions and more play out in my mind with every show I do.

But now, what about my online channels – namely the website, www.sidequestgamesandcollectibles.com? As a “one man band,” I’ve been moving at light speed. Inventory has become very inaccurate. Items sometimes aren’t even being loaded.

How can I expect to deliver on promises if I don’t have promises to deliver on? How can I expect new Questers that find me online to not just leave (my current bounce rate is obscenely high)?

Well. Lt. Ellen Ripley has the answer. I’m going to “nuke the site….” …Tactically.

My CCGs and TCGs are fortunately managed by BinderPOS. Very little is handled on this end by me. Funko? Loungefly? Board Games? All of the rest? I handle EVERYTHING. It’s detail oriented. It requires a level of attention I was not able to provide before.

What my plan of focus is moving forward is to scrub ALL non-TCG items from the site and republish them starting with new preorder items and adding back on inventory as the count has been verified. The first line I will be doing will be Funko. It has the most SKUs, but… …there are A LOT of preorders which I will be adding. If you have not preordered with Side Quest before, I strongly suggest you do.

Then, Loungefly. Loungefly inventory has been pretty accurate, but with any business, this can become inaccurate over time.

For my newest Questers, this may be somewhat distressing, inconvenient, or annoying. I can say this – it will be worth it.

Thanks for your support and be safe on your Quest today
